Good hotel with free Wi-Fi, a fantastic outdoor pool, and a cute bar area. On my first visit, the staff gave excellent restaurant recommendations. I highly recommend dining at the Portuguese restaurant. I'm coming back for a weekend!

But honestly, why's the pool water colder than our ice cream? It's like a polar plunge, darling!

We had a lovely family trip and enjoyed the beautiful pool and garden areas that kept the kids entertained. The location was convenient, with many good restaurants within walking distance and easy access to some scenic coastal paths. However, we encountered some noise from live performances at the bar below our room, which made it hard for the kids to sleep. Overall, the hotel had plenty of positives, but a quieter environment would have made our stay even better.

The breakfast buffet was outstanding and diverse.

Multiple heated pools, beautiful garden area, ancient orchid garden
The noise from nearby traffic is unbearable!!! Some rooms have unpleasant views, and spa reservations are unnecessarily complex for spontaneous guests. Also, the Wi-Fi connection is a joke — quite frustrating for those needing to stay connected!!!

We had an awesome time with our friends! The swimming pools and expansive gardens kept us entertained. The hotel also has an activity program for adults and seasonal events for kids, making it fun for everyone. Just a heads up, water is free only on the first day.
The reception staff seemed a bit unfriendly during check-in, which was not the warm welcome we expected.

Beautiful gardens and spacious rooms
I had a wonderful stay with spacious rooms and stunning views, surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens. The expansive pools were a perfect place to relax, and the dining options offered a fantastic variety of delicious meal choices. The only downside was the occasional noise from entertainment events that could be heard in the rooms.

Beautiful place for a relaxing getaway
Had an awesome time at this resort! The gardens are seriously stunning with all sorts of plants around. The breakfast buffet was top-notch, especially those fresh pastries. One thing tho, the live music was pretty loud at night—def not ideal if you're an early riser. Still, totally worth it for the views and vibe!

Portobay had some stellar features. The gardens were stunning and well-maintained, creating a relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the multiple swimming pools. they offered plenty of space to unwind. The breakfast had a diverse range of options that catered to all tastes, with fresh pastries and local dishes. The location was convenient with easy access to the nearby bus stop, making it simple to explore Funchal. The staff, in most cases, were friendly and approachable, though check-in was a bit underwhelming. I felt a lack of warmth from some reception staff, which set a less favorable tone initially. There was also some noise from the live music that could be heard from my room, but it mostly wrapped up by 10:30 PM. Families often claimed the pool area with towels early in the morning, making it difficult to find lounges at peak times. Overall, there were just a few hiccups that overshadowed a pleasant stay.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful, and the pools are enjoyable and well-maintained. The staff is efficient and friendly, ensuring a pleasant stay. However, the breakfast options could use more variety, and the common areas feel slightly dated. Overall, a solid place with room for improvement.

The Portobay hotel provided an excellent experience during my business trip. The well-appointed meeting facilities met all my work needs, allowing for efficient presentations. The beautifully landscaped gardens and two outdoor pools were perfect for unwinding after a long day. The dining options were varied and the food quality was consistently high, making meal times truly enjoyable.
Limited room service options, and sometimes slow Wi-Fi.
